TOURING STAGE COACHELLA: KASKADE
Vita Motus and VT Pro teamed up to create Kaskade’s touring stage, which unveiled on the mainstage of 2015’s Coachella.
The client asked for a simple, yet powerful design. The biggest challenge was to design something that was compelling, yet still efficient to take on tour.
The final concept mimicked an open book, with modular frames scaling from 15 to 18 feet tall, that posed as a monolithic sculpture, powerful during the day and night.
Each frame was like a page of a book, unraveling a story, with LED surfaces on the arch and audience facing sides. This placement created a unique position for media or light to be perceived on certain angles, producing a greater sense of movement and depth along the structure.
The DJ table itself was made extremely simple and modern, intended to immerse Kaskade inside the pages, making the whole monolithic structure his “DJ Booth”.
For touring we developed a system we would use for building in order to make time in transit more effective, using rentable truss and LED to minimize storage on the road.
