BROADCAST STAGE TENCENT OPEN FIRE
The Chinese multinational conglomerate, Tencent, selected Heather Shaw for stage designer of their televised mega-performance, Open Fire.
Heroic-scale sculptures depict a tiger and human locked in confrontation between a surreal mountain scape. The scenography divides centerstage, acting as fulcrum between force and counterforce. Light radiates from the perforated sculptures, reinforcing the asymmetry, duality, and focal point. Performers inhabit the scenic elements by traveling carefully embedded entrance / exit routes. The performance space continues downstage into the audience with several mechanical lifts, a separate DJ booth, a projection scrim area, and robotic arms.
Well-seasoned in meeting the demands of international clientele, Vita Motus channels culturally sensitive themes into a mature conceptual package complete with high quality renderings, technical drawings, and production oversight.
